Some callings begin at the kitchen table.
Before there was a name for this ministry, there was a home where people were welcome—and a heart for those who needed somewhere to belong.
AN OPEN DOOR. A DIFFERENT TOMORROW.“It’s the only name
that fits anymore.”
In the book, Nonna offers a simple kind of welcome: come in, have something to eat, tell your story when you’re ready. That spirit is the heart of the ministry Danica Starkey is working to build.
Danica grew up knowing the importance of a home that made room for others. Military family life showed her how quickly someone could be left in an unfamiliar place without a support system. Fostering and the hope of adoption deepened a lifelong concern for people without somewhere to belong.
Over time, those experiences came together in a different vision: a place where people who feel alone—at any age, for any reason—could be family for a while.
“A house is four walls and a roof.DANICA STARKEY · NONNA’S HOUSE OF HOPE
Hope is what happens inside it.”
Not the family she pictured.
Something bigger.
Nonna’s House of Hope grew out of years of welcoming people, watching families face hard transitions, and learning that God’s plans do not always look like our own.
The dream is both physical and personal: homes with doors that close safely, kitchens where a meal can be made, and a community that says, “I see you, and I’m not going anywhere.”
Today, that dream is in the planning phase. The book shares the heart behind it; the ministry’s next chapters are still being written.
